Twenty former members gathered at the Northern Club in Auckland one wet and cold morning in June 2023. After warming up over coffee and morning tea, President Peter Dunne gave a short update on Association activities. Guest speaker, Deputy Mayor of Auckland, Desley Simpson then provided interesting insights on the challenges facing Auckland and first-hand perspectives on dealing with the dramatic weather events that had impacted Auckland earlier in the year. Her stimulating address was followed by a wide-ranging, frank and honest, Q&A from around the table. With more stories and reminiscences to be shared, the majority of former members stayed on for lunch. Everyone left agreeing it had been a hugely successful event. A similar event is being considered for former members in Wellington in the new year.
