Committee member Marian Hobbs is leading a project on how best the Association can support former members after they leave Parliament. While some transition to life after politics easily, others can find it challenging. Both the UK and the State of Victoria have researched the issue. We are now looking at it from a New Zealand perspective.
Marian has devised a survey which has been shared with a number of former MPs who left parliament after recent elections. The results are being compiled by an Australian researcher who has also sent the same survey to Australian state and federal MPs. We expect to hear from the researcher by the end of April. The results will help inform the next stages of the project. If you are interested in knowing more about this project please contact the Association at former.members.nz@gmail.com.
